Clever, goofy, gentle, and loyal. Bernedoodles are a designer breed that has the best of both worlds from its Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents.

The temperament of the Bernedoodle is generally playful and affectionate. They interact well with children and love to spend lots of time with their human families. With their friendly temperament and fierce loyalty, Bernedoodles make the perfect family dog. They are great with children and with other dogs, but they can be a bit protective and can be suspicious of strangers at times.  It is very important to socialize them early. Puppy classes are recommended when the puppy has completed all vaccines. We, Halsey Poodles and Doodles recommend they live as INDOOR pets and have found they are much happier with daily interaction and LOTS of love ! 

In general the Bernedoodle is an easy to train dog. .They are however notoriously stubborn and can provide some resistance to puppy training. Consistency and positive reinforcement are vital.  With dedication on your part, their natural smarts (thanks, poodle breed!) will make them highly trainable. We HIGHLY recommend brushing your Bernedoodle 3-4 times per week and Professional grooming every 4-6 weeks at a minimum. The Bernedoodle has a dense curly/wavy coat that requires a lot of attention.  Matting is a huge problem with this breed. It can be very painful for the dog if his coat is matted , and could cause skin irritation and pain. Make sure you find a reputable groomer in your area before taking your puppy home!
